The town's German architecture harks back to the 1800's. At that time the port was not sufficiently deep and boats had to unload out at sea. Today, this luxury sea-side resort is as much appreciated by the inhabitants as by travelers.
Himba Women
Himba women traditionally apply a bright orange body paint called "otjize". This is a paste made from red ochre, which is used to coat the skin and protect it from the harsh sun.
