What you can expect from this 21 day Northern Safari tour:

Whether it's for the action or the majesty - you'll have a long way to go to beat Victoria Falls, and to see Livingstone, named after the first white explorer to ever set eyes on the Falls. The trip across Zambia takes you into Malawi. Land locked but with its own small inland, fresh-water 'sea', the tropical beaches and coastal villages will give you plenty to explore.

Dar-es-Salaam, on the coast of the Indian Ocean, is the gateway to the Spice Islands of the Zanzibar Archipelago, and an embarkation onto a fantastical journey into history. This 21 day Northern Safari tour takes you from the ocean to the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro where you have the added option of seeing the vast herds of game on the Serengeti Plains. Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world, is 610 metres (2001.3 feet) deep with an area of 260 km2 (100.3 sq miles) This microcosm of East African scenery should not be missed.

Finally, you arrive in Nairobi. This modern capital is not separated from the great wilderness that surrounds it. Nairobi National Park, a 20 minute drive from the city is 113 km2 (43.62 sq miles) of plains, cliffs and forest. The park is home to large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more. Rhino, Cheetah, and a large number of Lions are all found here.

Note: This Southern Sun Overland Tour also operates from Victoria Falls to Cape Town.

Day 1: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

You will spend the first day of your tour, exploring the area and participating in the many activities available. Should you wish to spend more time in Victoria Falls, earlier arrival should be planned and additional accommodation should be booked.

Victoria Falls is one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders. All year round, flights over the Falls from fixed wing planes, micro lights or helicopters can be enjoyed. Back on the ground, the majesty of the Falls can be viewed from the Victoria Falls National Park and offers spectacular photographic opportunities.

White water rafting down Batoka Gorge is not to be missed. Optional activities include day trips into the Zambezi or Hwange National Parks, horse riding safaris, visits to Crocodile Ranch, Snake Park, golf at Elephant Hills Hotel, parachuting, and the Falls Craft Village. Breakfast is included.

Days 2 & 3: Victoria Falls to Lake Kariba, Zambia

Today the tour leaves Victoria Falls to the Zambian town of Livingstone, and then to Lake Kariba, your base for the next 2 nights. Lake Kariba is one of the largest man made lakes in the world and is home to a wide variety of African game, bird life and unique flora and fauna.

Here you will have the option of taking a 2 night trip on the House Boat on Lake Kariba. For those not interested, there are many other activities at the campsite that you can partake in, including fishing, canoeing, hiking, exploring the local village, or relaxing on the banks of the tranquil Lake Kariba. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.

House Boat Option - 2 night/2 day:

You will board the house boats at about 13:00pm and have lunch. You will depart the harbour at about 14:00pm and sail out to the Maaze River to watch the breathtaking sunset over the Lake. You will overnight on the House Boat, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

The following day you have a chance to relax on the deck and enjoy the on board Jacuzzi. For the more active, fishing/game cruises on tender boats, or game walks on the island can be organised. After enjoying a delicious lunch, you head to Maaze Island for a tour of the Crocodile Farm. Dinner is prepared on the boat while you relax and sip sundowners over the lake.
